![]() ![]() Registered Member #2 Posts: 81 | Currently there are NO programs to open up CoD4 .FF files. There are a few programs that open up ".ff" extension files but these files are NOT the same as the CoD4 files and will not work to open them in any way at all. There probably will never be a program to open them up unfortunately, unless of course someone reverse engineers the code when CoD4 loads them into memory. Now, it IS possible to rip the files right from memory after they have loaded(after you start a mission, or in mp, after you start the server i'm sure). I did this using ollydbg If you don't know how to use it, I'm sorry, i don't have time to teach you how. But if you know how then it is very easy, just search for the string .gsc and then dump that whole memory section. However doing this doesnt produce the files, instead it produces one giant file of plain readable text in which all the files are "merged". So what that means is all the files need to be seperated, and requires A LOT of copying/pasting. You can check the download section to get the Singleplayer Demo memory dump. I do believe however that it could be possible to reverse engineer this loading into memory. If I can catch CoD4 in the act of loading them. I might be able to copy that(load the ff files into memory) and write a bit of code to scan through the memory and create the files on the harddrive automatically. ![]() Registered Member #27 Posts: 0 | The memory rip I did was over 500MB, which was not nice because nothing I have can open text files that large (and run effectively). lol Part of the difference though may be that I haven't figured out yet how to configure ollydbg to dump only the ascii text and leave the addresses out. lol It really wasn't that important to me yet though, so I stopped trying. All I needed to know is that even if IW ships this game in an un-moddable state, that with some effort the scripting files can be extracted. Hopefully we will not NEED to do this when the game ships, but... I wouldn't bet on it. worm worm | ||
